Synthetic coatings

Synthetic teak is an innovative, sustainable and ecological alternative for renovating or covering the decks of sailboats, motorboats and catamarans. Made from natural, biodegradable plasticizers, this 100% recyclable composite material offers the advantage of great comfort on board, both aesthetically and functionally.

Unlike wood, which is a living material that needs to be maintained with heavy-duty protective oils, synthetic teak is stabilized, waterproof and requires minimal maintenance. It resists the most stubborn stains and can be easily cleaned with soapy water or a high-pressure cleaner. It offers all the safety and durability guarantees of composite materials.

For ship decks, cockpits or saloons, marine carpet is also a wise choice for combining elegance and functionality. Thick, marine-grade materials adapt to all types of craft and provide comfort.

Synthetic teak

Particularly suitable for boat deck cladding, the latest generations of synthetic teak have all the aesthetic advantages of natural wood, plus UV resistance and good value for money. Synthetic teak cladding is available in slats for self-assembly by gluing, or in pre-assembled panels made to measure in the workshop, using gluing or thermowelding techniques, depending on the brand. Only the reverse thermowelding technique guarantees the final watertightness of the panels.

The cladding is then simply glued to the boat. Unlike teak, there are no screw holes in the deck, for a watertight seal. The product is available in a wide range of shades, imitating wood as it ages or in more contemporary custom colors.

Non-slip surfaces

To guarantee safety on board, boat surfaces must remain non-slip. Over time, it’s important to revise your deck covering to cope with bad weather and the morning dew that brings its moisture content to ship decks. For most new polyester boats, anti-slip is molded into the deck.

For those who don’t benefit from it from the outset, there are different types of coating to improve grip: in addition to synthetic teak or natural wood coverings, carpets and marine vinyl, whose effectiveness is well known, there are specific anti-slip paints. Beyond the safety aspect, the final choice will depend on budget and desired aesthetics.

Carpeting

Carpeting boats is a wise choice to ensure on-board comfort and simplify navigation for sailors. Carpet for ships is renowned for its resistance to sun and weather. Thick marine carpet covers decks, cockpits and lockers. It’s easy to install – clipped on or just laid without gluing – and can be applied to any polyester, aluminum or plywood surface.
